Moved here myself from London last August. My wife and had a look at all the towns around here and we attracted by the pleasant high street and good schools. I think Baldock is fine, lots of pubs and a 24 hour tesco on the edge of town. Its pretty quite bar a few youths who hang around tescos. In terms of comparisons to Letchworth and Hitchin, both are bigger at least double the size. Hitchin has a vey nice almost medieval town centre with lots of shops. Letchworth was the first 'garden city' - a 19th century equivalent of Milton Keynes, v ordered. It was founded by Quakers, so unlike Baldock has very few pubs (2 a think). Mwant to be very safe at night! The main snag with Baldock compred to Letchworth and Hitchen is trains into London - the service is not as good. A couple of the shop on the high street have closed due to Tescos but will probably re-open as something else. Anyway, hope this helped and good luck wuth the move.
